Lawrence Broxmeyer MD is a medical researcher and Pennsylvania physician specializing in Internal medicine. His research platforms deal with complex medical conditions in the past attributed to both environmental and infectious cause. To Dr. Broxmeyer there was never a question: it is infectious cause which reigns supreme in man‘s illness.
Broxmeyer’s papers cover the topics of tuberculosis (TB), past H1N1 viral “Swine Flu” outbreaks , and Bird Flu, both of which have impacted many countries. Following the cue of major American pharmaceutical companies, who prior to antibiotics where heavily invested in the manufacture of bacteriophage preparations to kill bacteria, Broxmeyer found a novel method of using such bacterial viruses to kill some of the most virulent microorganisms presently attacking man (Phagotherapy). In doing so, he and his colleagues were able to show exponential killing of otherwise heavily antibiotic resistant microbes. Moreover, the study established that such killing was intracellular, inside the body’s white blood cell macrophages, the holy grail in the search for killing otherwise insidious intracellular microbes.
While working at the N.Y. Institute of Research, Dr. Lawrence Broxmeyer’s work was published in several books and peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Broxmeyer received his medical degree from Far Eastern University-Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation, from which he earned his M.D..
Internist Lawrence Broxmeyer then served as a Staff Member for 15 years at several New York area hospitals, including affiliates of SUNY Downstate , Cornell Medical Center, N.Y.U. and others. Dr. Broxmeyer was heavily involved in patient care at the crest of America’s coastal AIDS epidemic. Later, in a collaboration with colleagues in San Francisco and at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, he would coauthor the paper that explored a novel technique to kill AIDS mycobacteria. The aforementioned study can be found in the October 15th, 2002 edition of The Journal of Infectious Diseases. Currently he is licensed to practice medicine in Pennsylvania.
